A popular outdoor attraction in Jefferson is set to open later this week.

Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Denny Hammen says the swimming pool will be open Thursday for the season. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio the major renovation to the pool house was completed in April, which includes straight away hallways that lead directly to the pool, privacy stalls in the men's locker room for changing and showering, along with adding a family restroom that is located on the west side of the facility.

"So it will have a baby changing station, a toilet, a shower, and a sink in it. And plenty of room for a young family to be able to work with their kids to get them ready to go in or out of the pool."

A couple of other features for the pool were a new slide and a climbing wall. Hammen points out those items have not been installed yet, due to circumstances out of his control.

"There's a little more red tape to go with changing a pool particularly when you’re changing the features that may involve safety issues for the participants. And so we are currently working with the Iowa Department of Public Health (now the Department of Health and Human Services). They’re kind of backlogged which would be understandable for this time of year as well. And so we’re not sure when we’ll be able to get their certification to begin this project. So we’re a little frustrated from the standpoint that we’re not sure we’ll have it done this year."

Hammen says the pool will be fully open starting June 1st with adult lap swim from 11:30am-1pm, general swim will be from 1-5pm and adult and family swim is from 5-8pm. Daily admission is $6 for adults, $5 for children, and kids two and younger can swim for free. Season passes include $65 for children 3-17-years-old, $80 for adults 18 to 64 and, seniors who are 65 and older are $55 and a family pass is $135.
