YMCA of Parkersburg promising sloppy good time with Mud Run

PARKERSBURG — The YMCA of Parkersburg will host the third annual City of Vienna Mud Run at 9:30 a.m. on June 3.

In addition to the traditional divisions, this year there will be a new team event where teams of five can compete for the Mud Run Cup.

The winning team will hold the title until the 2024 Mud Run.

The winner of the traditional divisions will be determined by the individuals with the fastest time.

The winning team for the Mud Run Cup will be determined by adding the completion times of each team member.

The 1.25 mile-long family-friendly course will start from the wooded area behind the Vienna Recreation Center and will include at least 12 obstacles. Most obstacles offer a kid-friendly alternative; however the race is not suitable for children under the age of 5.

Popular obstacles from last year's Mud Run will be returning, such as the mud pit, military crawl, 70-foot slip and slide, cargo net climb, horizontal climbing wall and ninja warrior steps. New obstacles will include the watercrawl and slack line.

"This is our third annual Mud Run," said Criss Welshans, Program Director at the YMCA of Parkersburg. "Each year we have either added new obstacles or improved existing ones, all in an effort to move the event forward.

"I am excited for the addition of the Mud Run Cup! We feel this is another great way to build community, one friendship at a time."

There will be three divisions: Adult (16+), Youth (11-15), and Youth (5-10). Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to a male and female in each division. There will also be one overall winner of the Mud Run Cup.

Sign-in will be at the Vienna Rec Center beginning at 8:30 a.m. and walk-in registrations will end at 10 a.m. Registration is available in-person or online at www.parkersburgymca.org.

Runners will compete in heats of upto 10 racers every 10 minutes. Team heats will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the first heat of individual runners will start at 10:20 a.m.

The entry fee for the Mud Run is the same for both Youth and Adult Divisions. YMCA members receive a discounted rate of $24 while the fee for non-members is $30.

To make this a family friendly event, Y-Member families (three or more members) will have a total fee of $60 and non-member families (three or more members) will have a total fee of $70. Registration is open online and in-person.
