Even if the weather is being weird and rainy, school is out this week and with that comes the age old question: what to do with the kids?!

Here's a rundown of things we know of that are happening this summer in Indian Valley and beyond (that Indian Valley kids can participate in).

Pool

Hang tight Indian Valley Community Pool lovers! A lifeguard has been found and there will be activities at the pool this summer. Organizer Laura Kearns asks readers to check out the pool's Facebook page (we’ll post it too in Communities Rising) as soon as they have a schedule figured out.

Nature Made Kids’ Camp

The next date for Nature Made Kids’ Camp is June 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wild Plumas (1323 Greenville Wolf Creek Road, Greenville). Kids can climb a rock climbing wall, gold pan, rock paint, and take in Maidu traditional knowledge, ride on a zip line and have fun in a treehouse. For more information and to sign up, go to www.plumasruralservices.org/nature-made. Snacks and lunches are provided for all kids. Children under five must have a parent or guardian with them. Free camp thanks to Wild Plumas, Plumas Rural Services, Dixie Fire Collaborative, and Almanor Foundation.

Kid Mob Workshop

Kid Mob is back! Tyler Pew of LMNOP Design Inc., indicated that they will be running a KIDmob workshop from June 20 to 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with lunch being provided. This is for children ages 12 through 16. If older students would like to join, they are asked to also reach out.

"The focus is on the role of memory as we [Re]Build Greenville. The goal of the workshop is to begin discussing what a memorial/forest walk/art piece… could be to honor our shared memories before and after the fire. While it sounds like a heavy subject we hope to approach [it] with a playful and intentional manner," said Pew.

Students have the opportunity to work with a ‘mob’ of professional designers, engineers, architects, and fabricators to design and even build out real solutions for the community.

Parents can sign up at [email protected] or at Indian Valley Academy or at the www.kidmob.org website.

The event will take place at Indian Valley Academy, (4338 Main Street, Taylorsville).

Summer Art Program

It's happening in each community but in Indian Valley it's once a week for five weeks every Monday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for second through fifth grades and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for sixth through eighth grades. The workshops take place at Indian Valley Academy in Taylorsville. The fee is $120, but partial or full scholarships are available. For more information contact Plumas Arts at (530) 283-3402 or [email protected] with any questions. Additional information is on the Plumas Arts website at www.plumasarts.org/summer-arts-program.

Theatre

You have to get to Quincy, but dramaworks is sponsoring a program called "Activate Youth Voices." It's a free summer camp taking place from July 10 to July 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with lunch included. Students will learn to write plays, act, costume design, lighting and sound design, set design and set building, and promotion and marketing with both local and visiting professionals. Camp concludes with performances written, designed, and performed by the campers. To learn more or register go to www.westendtheatre.us/ayv. This program is meant for teens and is part of the SWEET program at West End Theatre in Quincy. This program is sponsored by the California Arts Council.

Youth Group

Every Sunday this summer is Summer Youth Group at 11 a.m. at Foot of the Cross Farms (in the arena) 4395 Nelson Street, Taylorsville. BBQ, games, and bible activities for sixth through 12th grade.
